Why Valitics Does Not Support Internet Explorer 6

The main reason we aren't supporting IE6 on our new website design is because it's a crappy browser. It doesn't support web standards.  It's 8+ years old (in internet years, that is like 120 years old - we've done the math). It's full of pop-ups, adware, malware, and other insidious things that will hurt your browsing experience and possibly the stability of your computer. It doesn't play by the rules, it sucks and we're not going to support it anymore on our site.

As a web design firm, we work hard to make the best looking websites possible.  If we want to support IE6 on a site we build, after all the work is done to make the site look pixel perfect in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, IE7 and IE8, we have to add in all sorts of conditional statements, IE6-only stylesheets, and other hacks to get it to work in a browser that is two generations old and is no longer even supported by its creator.

Are you still using IE6?

If you are still using Internet Explorer 6, it is likely because one of these two reasons:

1) It came pre-installed on your computer (aka the reason Microsoft had an antitrust case filed against them) and your haven’t updated your browser. If that is the case, we strongly recommend upgrading to a modern browser like Firefox or IE8.  These are probably your best bets. I know change can be scary, but trust us, it's a good idea.

2) Your work forces you to use IE6 on your work machine. If that is the case, I guess you can lobby the powers that be to upgrade. Sell the concept. Tabbed browsing increases productivity. RSS integration will make you smarter faster. Add-ons and plug ins likely exist for your other software systems. With a modern browser, you can use them.

Bottom line: We have moved on from IE6. For the 1 in 10 of the people (or so) that come to our site via IE6, we hope they find this post if nothing else.
